Java-E UK - Fair Trade Policy
Java-E UK is a UK owned and based business, and we source products from relatively poor parts of the world. Bali and Java (our main sources) are in Indonesia.
Prior to setting up Java-E UK, the UK owners of Java-E UK made a solemn promise to their Balinese designers/suppliers that they will never knowingly unfairly exploit any workers from poorer countries, and this promise is to be kept for as long as the company exists and is to apply to all of our suppliers.
Just because the cost of living or average wage is relatively low in a supplying country, it does not follow that workers from that country should be given a low wage from a richer country. All of our suppliers deserve the same good/high level of payment regardless of where they are in the world, because their work is of a very high quality and very specialised.
To this end, Java-E UK keeps its accounts entirely transparent to its suppliers so that the suppliers can see that they get a fair proportion of the final retail values of their products.
Retail prices of every product are very carefully maintained so that Java-E UK and its suppliers each get a fair fixed proportion of the final retail profit from each item. Therefore, each supplier is effectively given a profit-share of Java-E UK.
We have this policy for moral reasons (the Java-E UK owners are strenuous believers in fair trade) and also to help keep our suppliers with us. Without the support of our suppliers, Java-E UK would not have the high quality products and services that we now enjoy; we recognise this and feel it right to show our appreciation of this to our suppliers.
Poor countries are too often unfairly exploited by companies who only have eyes for their profit-sheets. At Java-E UK, we see no reason why a good profit can't be produced while still fairly rewarding all of our suppliers for producing high-quality products with good service.
Below are a list of Fair Trade Links - we sincerely hope that our customers support fair trade to make the world a fairer and better place for us all.
